Being a photographer it is easy to dream yourself away to exotic places to take photos and hell that is fun, but I think its important to remember that its beauty in different forms all around us. Today with the sun shinning I decided to just walk outside my door and take a few shoots not go more then 100 meters away from my house. I think we should all do this more often.

This last month I was able to do an editorial with model Cleo Wattenström and makeup artist Marika Sernfält on an amazing location. The house we were able to use for the shoot is called Stora Hyttnäs and is located just 15 minutes out from Falun in a town called Sundborn. The rich history of this historic home along with the uniquely stunning look of Cleo made for a wonderful shoot. Despite being extremely sick that day. Things just worked out.
Another fun thing is after being published in our magazine it looks like they will be re-published in another magazine throughout Scandinavia. Always fun!
And here are some backstage photos from the shoot. And as you can see from me and my teams clothes it was not exactly warm. Poor Cleo!
You can always find more backstage photo on my Facebook page so check it out.

I have run in to a number of problems re-launching my website but finally I am home with it, so make sure to surf in and take a look around

Working with huge image files and needing to be able to do some more advanced retouching you really need to have the right computer to be able to do this. I have a great imac that I am able to work on just fine but my laptop has not been so fun to retouch on. Although it was a good MacBook Pro it just did not have the power I wanted out of it. So yesterday I ordered the new MacBook Pro 15″ Retina 2.6GHz Quad-Core i7, 16GB RAM. So with this amount of power in it I am sure that working not only will be easy but super killer f&%/ing awesome!

Today me and the kids were out on a hike in the woods. It was a rainy day but we got lucky and when we went out it stopped long enough for us to venturer around a few hours. The kids had fun exploring and we all enjoyed the beautiful autumn leaves.
After that we headed to one of our favorite places for lunch “Gamal Staberg” ware we enjoyed some great garlic chicken and potatoes.
God I love my kids!

Yesterday some of my photos went up in Dalarnas Museum’s Kopparhatten Café as an exhibition that will be up tell mid December in cooperation with Hagström Guitar Fundraiser .
Ill most likely be changing out the photos mid December as long a an upcoming shoot I have planed goes as it should. But regardless. If you are in Falun make sure to swing by and take a cup of coffee.

Here are a few pictures I took of model Madeleine together with my side kick Marika. I sat on these photos for a while but then I got inspired on how i was going to tone them ext and well they came out of the closet, so here you go

One thing I have gladly bragged about was how I never get sick. In fact I think it was nearly 2 years ago I was. Since I started working out, my body has just fought off colds and such like a Jedi Master. But like every champion comes a day when a fight is not one. Here I am this week full of snoot and coughing my head off. And I might add that I have gotten my sweet Malin sick as well
The worst is for sure over and I was “lucky” and had my worst day on Tuesday when I had our underwear editorial shoot to do. The model came in by train from Stockholm tuesday morning, so no day of rest for me.
I have to give big thanks to my fantastic team I worked with this day who really lighted my load with all the small things they could do to make the shoot go easier. So big hugs to Marika, Malin and Ronja for all the help. Working with a fantastic model who was both inspirational and super friendly toped the day off making the shoot a success.
Now the next week Photographer Ryan will be taking a small break and Magazine Editor Ryan is out doing the layout for our next number of Nolltvå.
Here is a few backstage photos from they shoot.

This last weekend Malin and I had an old friend and her boyfriend here for a visit. We had a great time talking hanging out and enjoying some good enchiladas. And taking some pictures.
I have known Petra for about 3 years through photography but have become close friends. Another cool thing is that my Malin and Petra knew each-other even before we hooked up. SMALL WORLD!
It was very nice to be able to get to know her boyfriend Oliver even more and looking very forward to more future hangouts.

I have been looking forward to this night since before summer started. Tonight we are heading out to Sundborn dive in to the world of Beer. We will be trying a wide variety of different beers while enjoying some good food and some amazing surroundings.
I truly can not wait!!!
See more pictures from when I visited this place doing an editorial for our magazine here. But tonight we are guest!!

A few weeks back Marika and I were able to shoot the band Nerved. They really were a fun gang to work with making the shoots go extremely smooth. On top of that their music is way cool. So make sure to look in to them. nerved.com Or find them on Facebook

Ok so we have been home for a while but with work and life in general finding the time to go through all the photos ext.. Needles to say our trip was a major hit. Being able to get away and enjoy the sunshine we have not been having in Sweden was exactly what was needed. In fact sitting here now after having yet another day with rain I really would not mind being back in this sunshine
Enough said here are the photos from our trip.

This month Malin wrote about this very cool Training group for women called “Pink Gloves” These tuff girls get together and work their asses off in a very cool and tuff boxing inspired workout program. Besides getting sweaty and strong they seem to really have a great time together in a way that benefits them even out of the gym. So I headed down and took a picture for the cover of this months issue and a picture of the inside article.

For our summer number of nolltvå we did a fun shoot at Summer Land so thought I would just show the result along with some backstage photos. See the magazine and other issues at www.nolltva.se

These last days have been great. The best moments in life take place right around home and with Family. Being able to take off from work and be with my kids, my mother and the love of my life has been the highlight of this year. Enough said. Here is some more photos from these last days. Take care now.
16
Today we were out in Sundborn and one of the highlights must have been when we found these pianos placed out in the forest as an exhibit. I was very taken by this different type of exhibit. The beauty of these old wooden instruments placed back in to a forest just seemed very right and beautiful. If you can make it out to Sundborn make sure to check it out.

So here we are well in to our summer here in Sweden and the temperature is basically the same as it has been in the Spring. But even though we have not gotten what we have been hopping for all year long (summer heat) We are making the best of what we have in the rain and lower temperatures. This last week as been filled with some great times out and about here in Dalarna together with my mother who is here visiting.
It really is nice to see the connection between family. Even if my Kids are not able to see their grandmother very often they know and feel very well the connection between them and their grandma.
It is also the first time Malin and my mom meet and I could not have asked for it to go better.
Here is a some photos from the last few days.

After a wonderful weekend with our good friends we are back at home and the rain in poring down. I find my optimistic personality tested to the max right now with this weather. Here in Sweden we have cold dark winters, cold wet spring and fall, so it really makes one look forward to sunshine and warmth during the summer. This year however we rarely have seen days with temperatures hitting over 20 celsius and the last weeks have been filled with mostly rain then not and looking at the weather report it looks like we have another week of rain to look forward to. Going to do my best anyway to crack a smile as I think of umbrellas and rain coats instead of swim trunks and flip flops that I had been looking forward to all year.
06
I absolutely love to find these hidden gems and especially in my own back yard! Here In Dalarna Sweden I seem to never stop to be amazed by all the gems I seem to keep on finding. The people and the places that make me proud to call it my adoptive home. Not to long back Malin and I had the opportunity to meet up with Lars who Runs this amazing place out of his home ware people can come and experience beer in a way that most of us never do. Besides opening up your mind to and tastebuds outside the box of Budweiser and Heineken the sights and settings of this place are enough to take one away to a place far from the day to day stress that seems to overwhelm us all. So if you live in Sweden or planning on making a trip here I really recommend visiting Sundborns öl & smakupplevelse. We are heading back with a group of friends in September and can not wait. Here are a few photos from this amazing place.

For the last 4 years I have photographed for Swedens largest music festival Peace and love. In the past the main focus of my photography during the festival was portraits of different artist. This year we changed things up. I did still take the arial photos I have done in the past (as seen in my previous last 2 blog entries) but besides the i was much less behind the stages and instead was out with the fans. I think it felt great to have the focus taken off of the artist that naturally are center stage and to put my attention on the wonderfully energetic and inspirational fans. I really was able to enjoy photographing this festival in a very different way.
So thanks to all of you wonderful fans who made Peace and Love festival amazing.

This week is Swedens biggest music festival and like other years I am here and photographing. Both from sky lifts and airplane. Also down on the ground to enjoy the music. Today I was able to watch Clutch who was amazing the other days we watched Dropkick Murphys and Rise Against. Many other cool bands as well and more to come. Here is some photos from the plain ride today and some of the photos taken from above.

This last weekend was really one to remember. Malin and I celebrated my favorite Swedish holiday “midsommar” up in Leksand with our friends Marcus and Mia along with Evelina and Björn and of course their dogs. Unlike many other days this last month the weather really was nice and we spent most of our time outside enjoying the festivities and BBQ. FOr the actual Midsommar celebration we went in to town and joined in a few other thousand happy Swedes.
It really is something special about this combination of flowers, dancing and the magical late night Swedish sun that brings a type of mystic over the entire thing. (Ok a few beers and some shots help as well
Anyway here is a few photos from the weekend.

Yesterday really was a day to remember. We started off with a fun photo shoot for nolltvå and then met up with my good friend Petra whom I had not seen in 2 years. Was great and felt like it was only yesterday once we got talking.
After that we met up with our good pals Marcus and Mia who we are spending this midsummer weekend with. We really had a great evening talking and relaxing over some beers and pizza with the beautiful surroundings provided here in Leksand.
So just going to lay here in bed a bit more enjoying the sound of the chirping birds and beautiful morning light creeping through the window and falling on to my beautiful Malin.
Glad midsommar till alla.

What a day today was. Full speed ahead getting our summer number of Nolltvå in order and with that tomorrow ill be heading out to Leksand to do our cover shoot for the issue. Ill be working with my trusty sidekick Marika on this shoot. Almost as much as I am looking forward to the shoot would have to be the breakfast will have at Gårdscafé with is one of my favor places to eat here in Dalarna.
After that comes the start of what I believe will be a great weekend.
More about that later but for now here is some photos from a series of photos taken together with Marika and Model Madeline.

So the main reason for our visit down to Malins home town of Ronneby this last weekend was to celebrate her Sister Hannas Graduation along with step – brothers.
This was a very interesting event for me coming from the u.s. since they have a very different way of celebrating graduation here in Sweden compared to back in the U.S.. In fact the first time I saw a graduating student I figured they were in the Navy, but no this is the traditional hat worn by graduation high school students. Another tradition is that the family members make a sign with their graduates name and baby picture and hold it up high and proud in a crowed of people waiting for them to run through the crowd so they can then hang small gifts on their neck. These gifts range from flowers, stuffed animals and alcohol. In Swedish culture the use of alcohol is much more accepted even amongst teenagers. Other traditions range from decorating everything in site with branches from trees and balloons. The students even take a ride around down waving and screaming standing on a trailer being pulled by trucks and tractors, but some chose to go by car as well.
It really was an interesting event to be apart of and made for a great day with family, friends and good food. Actually the whole weekend down in Ronneby was really a hit including our drive home ware we stopped in Jönköping and had some BBQ with my old friend David and his wife Helena. It really is weekends like this that make life great.

Back in Falun and rolling. Malin and I headed down to the gym early this morning and pounded out a great workout. But as we trained I could for sure see that my tan is non existent to say the least lol. We just have not had a start of summer here more then just a few days on and off that have been nice. Last year was for sure much better and even got to fly back to California ware I got a huge dose of sunshine. So as I sit here with a sweatshirt on looking out the window to cloudy skies as I retouch I can’t help but to think back to last year. Well I hope things turn around here soon. We got many fun things to look forward to anyway.
Here is a series of photos I took last year while in California. little summer inspiration.

So Today I picked up some copies of our latest issue of Nolltvå from print. This issue is full of lots of good stuff so was very fun to see it in print. One of the jobs I did was our yearly Swimwear shoot that we do together with local stores. We did this shoot some weeks back when Malin and I were down in the southern part of Sweden. I bloged a bit about that before.
Never the less here is the shoot and big thanks to Model Michaela and makeup artist Heidi.

Today despite the rain was a very fun one. Malin and I went to cover the MK open (a cross fit competition here in Falun) for nolltvå (the magazine I am editor/ photographer for). It was very inspirational to see these athletes kicking some serious ass out in the rain. I could not help but feel the energy of this sport as I photographed the event. We will be publishing some of these photos and a story about the event in our next issue but wanted to present these photos already here on my blog ( one of the benefits of following it
Check out the results of the MK open here
Any use of these photos must be done with my consent. . Thank you for respecting this. But feel free to link to this blog entry / Ryan Garrison

A few weeks ago Malin and I took a trip down to Malmö. The purpose of this trip was both for her last presentation in School and for me to photograph a swimsuit editorial for the magazine I am editor for. The weather was amazing and god do we miss it as we sit inside looking out the window at the rain coming down.
We were also able to enjoy a great breakfast at eco café “Lite Off” and meet up with my long time friend Lambis for some long walks, sunshine and ice-cream.
It is days like this I live for.

Yesterday was a great day. Had to work a bit with some photos to stay caught up with work but that did not stop Malin and I from strapping on our runnings shoes and stomping a 10k run. I absolutely loved every minute of it and just enjoyed the felling of being outside and taking in the beautiful nature around us. Those moments in life are precious when nothing else matters and you can just live in that moment.
Today after a great upper body and stomach workout it was off to the office ware It was some last minute planning and booking for this weeks Swimwear editorial Ill be shooting. I got a great team lined up for this shoot and really looking forward to it.
The weather today has been amazing and having to spend much of the day in the office was not the funnest but we made sure to be outside and BBQ after work. Today was probably one of the first days it actually felt like summer was on its way. And I have to say that I think I made the best BBQ chicken I have ever done.
Tonight we have been packing our bags. Cleaning my camera and lenses since we will hit the road tomorrow driving to Southern Sweden (about 8 hours drive) where Ill have my photo shoot, celebrate Malins graduation from college, visit her Family and celebrate the fact that we meet 1 year ago for the first time.
Its amazing how time has gone by so fast since we met and how feels like I have known her my entire life. From the minute we met we clicked in a way i could not even understand and it did not take more then a couple weeks and we were already a couple.
It amazing how happy another person can make you. I realize more now thanks to Malin that it really is the people we have in our lives that make it what it is. That our loved ones really are more important then any job, car or big house.
So Today has really been a great day and now I have a good felling its going to be a wonderful week.
19
Today we decided to take a little day trip out to Ågs bruk that is just about 35 minutes away. So Malin packed our lunches and and we were off. It was so fun to watch the kids running around exploring this very cool old steel factory. The nature was beautiful and the experience was magical. Just ask my boy Aidan about all the awesome rocks he found
18
It is not a secret that Malin and I are a bit of training freaks and even if we are out of town its always nice to get our workout in. It was not different for us when we were in Torrevieja Spain. I personally think it can be fun to think outside the box when it comes to fitness. Sure I train in the gym but often on vacation finding a gym and such just takes unneeded time out of the trip so I rather just find some cool places we can do our work out. Often when we are out exploring a new town we have our training stuff with us, or on us so we can easily get in to action. While we were walking around on this last trip we found this really cool abandoned parking lot near the ocean that offered for a really cool place to go nuts and of course with the camera in the bag we had to get some bad ass photos of our workout. I can recommend doing this when out on vacation. It makes for some great memories.
18
My road as a photographer keeps bringing me to new places. Still as from the start much of my work revolves around “fashion photography” but I have had some wonderful opportunities to stretch my photograph arms wide.
The last while it has been much commercial work and fashion editorials so it feels very nice when some more Journalistic work is landing on my table. I also had a meeting this last week with one of the add agencies I work with about a very fun project we are going to start on soon that should be done and launched by september. I can say that its going to be one of the more exiting jobs to date and although I might have to cut down on my vacation time I had planned for this summer it feels worth it.
I can not help but be exited for the roads to be traveled but this morning as I drink my coffee Ill look back and enjoy some roads already driven.

First off I just want to say how much I love my job. It is not often people can say that and I appreciate being one of those lucky bastards who wakes up in the morning exited to go to work not hopping to have the slightest bit of a cold or bad stomach so they can call in to sick.
In fact since I started with Nolltvå I have not had a single sick day. I know that a large part of that has to do with my lifestyle that consist of making good choices on what I put in to my mouth on a daily basis and that I don’t spend my free time sitting on my ass all day. But mental health plays such a huge role in the big picture. If you chose to be happy you will be happy.
I really do strongly believe that in many cases it is up to us weather or not we want to be happy. You can find a positive and a negative in almost any situation. I was talking with Malin on our 30 minute walk home last night in the poring rain without an umbrella or rain coat
About how when I was younger I was very involved in scouting and some of the week long backpacking trips we went on. Some of them with camping gear and some more based on survival so just living on what we could find and trap. Building fires without matches and making our sleeping bags along with shelter.
On those trips it was always those kids that would cry, wine and only talk about going home. Non stop they sat and talked to each other about what they would eat as soon as they got back or how nice their bed was. The positive thing for them I guess was they learned to appreciate what they had at home but god did they miss out on the experiences the rest of us had that learned to catch fish without fishing poles, that could sit in the forest and listen to every small sound that came from the woods. The satisfaction of knowing that we could survive on our own in the woods and actually enjoy every minute of it, taking with us experiences and memories that would benefit us the rest of our lives.
I am far off from being rich or anything like that but I enjoy my life and those who I have in it. I’m sure I could find 100 reasons not to like it considering I moved away from the U.S. and many friends and family. The fact that I live in a country thats population is less then Los Angles or that winter here last nearly the entire year…bla bla bla bla.. If I were to focus and waste to much of my time and energy thinking of this then I would not want to get out of bed. I would not be able to achieve in life. I would always want to live some place else. People that think like this can be found in any part of the world even in the sunniest parts. But I don’t want to be one of them.
So again.. Its all about choice. Do you chose to look at what is good in your life? or not?
15
Yesterday we spent the day enjoying our day off. Did some laundry and house work but besides that we were out walking and enjoying the sunshine. In the evening we met up with Marcus and Mia for dinner and some wine at Chapeau déor ware we enjoyed some great food and even greater company. After hanging out for a bit at their place in town we enjoyed the walk home.
If it is one thing I love the most about now that winter is leaving is that my shoes get put to use much more. I love to find excuses to walk instead of driving or taking taxis. When I think back about all the great moments Malin and I have had on nights out many of the best memories are on the walk home (even if some of the memories can be quite funny )
Well time to go wake up my sleeping beauty and enjoy today. Going to be some more long walks with extra big smiles on our faces today knowing that in less then 2 weeks our walks will be in Spain.
